Good morning, friends. As of this posting, Matt Jones has already been on television for three hours discussing the latest happenings in sports with Myron Medcalf. He’s on for another hour, so once you’re done reading this, turn on ESPNU to see what random direction he’s taking the conversation in, and then once that’s done, turn on KSR to hear if Ryan made it to his house on time or accidentally unplugged the internet again (Oh, Ryan).

When it comes to University of Kentucky sports, things are slowly heating up as football season approaches (only 18 more days, by the way). Today, Liam Coen and members of Kentucky’s offense will speak to reporters after camp. KSR’s Nick Roush and Steven Peake will be attending on our behalf, so check the site and KSR YouTube Channel after lunch for updates. Nick and Adam Luckett have also been sharing camp intel on KSBoard, so consider a subscription if you haven’t yet. We had a lot of fun on there at Louisville’s expense yesterday (more on that later).

Know what else will get you ready for football season? The latest KSR Football Podcast. Last night, the gang gathered virtually to discuss Kentucky not making the AP Preseason Top 25, Mark Stoops’ comments following Saturday’s scrimmage, the first Kroger KSR Game of the Week of the season (LCA vs. Bowling Green at WKU), and much more.

Turns out a lot of you are excited about football season. Last night, UK announced that fewer than 200 season tickets remain to be sold, and there are fewer than 200 single-game tickets available for the Florida game. If you still want one, you better act fast: UKFootballTix.com.

Also on our docket today…

Jeff Goodman debates the Sources Say crew

Jeff Goodman is not a fan of John Calipari or the Kentucky Basketball program, to say the least. The most recent example we have of that is Goodman and his “Field of 68” cohost Greg Waddell giving Kentucky a D+ grade for the offseason, with Goodman going as far as to say the Cats have a 0.1% chance of winning the national championship.

Today, Goodman is coming on “Sources Say” to discuss his take with Jack Pilgrim and Shawn Smith. The debate starts at 2 p.m. ET, ahead of Sources Say’s usual Tuesday 5 p.m. slot, so make sure you’re subscribed to the KSR YouTube Channel to receive a notification when they’re live.

News of Kentucky’s Mamba partnership is making the rounds

On Friday, Jack Pilgrim broke the news that Kentucky would be the first Mamba program, meaning they will wear exclusive Kentucky-themed Kobe sneakers and apparel this season, and potentially special uniforms featuring the Mamba logo sometime in the future. The partnership is a big deal, with Kobe Bryant’s widow Vanessa hand-picking Kentucky over other schools, a process over a year in the making.

The news was big on Friday and now, it’s starting to make the rounds in the sneaker world, with several big accounts sharing it on Monday.

Reminder: Kentucky Volleyball’s exhibition is Thursday

Yes, football season is just around the corner and we are very excited; however, another big UK sport begins (tips? serves?) this week. On Thursday, the Kentucky Volleyball team hosts Western Kentucky for an exhibition match at Rupp. First serve is at 6 p.m., admission is free, and the team will stick around to sign autographs and posters afterward.

This feels like a great opportunity to tell you that KSR’s volleyball coverage will be expanding this fall. Hunter Mitchell, who has covered the Cats for several seasons and probably knows more about them than anyone other than Craig Skinner, will take you inside the program with match previews, recaps, features, and even a YouTube show/podcast featuring a famous former Cat. We’ll have more details on that as the week goes on, but we’re very excited to have Hunter on board. If you missed it on Saturday, check out his recap of Craig Skinner’s press conference previewing the season. Home matches at Rupp will be an adjustment for both fans and the team.

UofLOL is back

I can’t end the morning post without at least mentioning the very bad Monday for the Louisville basketball program. Yesterday afternoon, freshman small forward Trentyn Flowers announced on social media that he is leaving the team to join the National Basketball League (NBL) in Australia. The former four-star recruit committed to Louisville in March and was the prize of Kenny Payne’s 2023 recruiting class. Now, he’s hitting the road without even playing a game. Ouch.

Potentially making matters worse, four-star point guard Ty-Laur Johnson is still not enrolled, according to Matt McGavic. Classes begin at UofL on Monday.

Nashville SC vs. Monterrey in the Leagues Cup Semifinal

If you’re an MLS fan, or simply someone who likes to see the author of this post happy, you’ll don a yellow shirt and cheer for the Boys in Gold tonight as Nashville SC hosts Monterrey, the top team in Liga MX in Mexico, in the semifinals of the Leagues Cup. If Nashville wins, they’ll advance to the finals to host either Philadelphia or Inter Miami on Saturday night. Messi in Nashville would make for a very special atmosphere for those who can afford to get in. But first, Monterrey. The game starts at 9:30 p.m. ET on Apple TV.
