KSR Today: Monday of Vanderbilt Week

Good morning, Kentucky Sports Radio readers. Today marks the start of Vanderbilt Week at Kentucky’s Joe Craft Football Training Facility as the Wildcats begin preparations for the upcoming trip to Nashville to play the Commodores. Saturday’s game is the opening to SEC play for Kentucky Football and a homecoming trip for former Vanderbilt running back Ray Davis, now the star back in Lexington.
Davis quickly got into Vandy mode after his 169-yard game against Akron.
Here at KSR, we are getting into Vandy mode, too. Adam Luckett will have his Monday Huddle, the new depth chart will follow, and then Mark Stoops will take his usual seat at the Monday podium.
Monday with Mark
Noon Press Conference
Headlining today’s schedule, Mark Stoops will take the Kroger Field media room stage at noon for his weekly Monday press conference. Stoops will share some of what he saw during Sunday’s film session, the latest on his football team after the third game, and what is ahead in the Wildcats’ trip to Vanderbilt. We hope to hear some positive news regarding Kenneth Horsey, too.
KSR will share all of Stoops’ comments here after the conversation.
Monday Call-In Show
Then later tonight, Stoops will sit down with Tom Leach for their weekly chat over the radio airwaves. The Mark Stoops Show can be heard from 6-7 p.m. on WLAP 630 or on the UK Sports Network’s affiliates throughout the state.
KSR Football Podcast is live tonight
After you listen to Stoops’ Monday night call-in show, make sure you and your family eat a good meal and then get over to KSR’s YouTube for an 8 p.m. broadcast of a new KSR Football Podcast. The show will be live with Kentucky-Akron talk from Nick Roush, Drew Franklin, Adam Luckett, and Freddie Maggard, and they’d love to hear from you in real-time in the comments section.
Kentucky slipped farther outside the Top 25
The Associated Press released a new version of its college football poll on Sunday, and your University of Kentucky Wildcats are now farther outside the Top 25. Last week, Kentucky was seven spots outside the 25 with a 32nd-place ranking in the voting. This week, the climb got longer, with a one-spot fall to 33rd, receiving 10 voting points.
Kentucky is 30th in the new Coaches Poll.

Kentucky-Vanderbilt Point Spread
Once the door closed on Week 3, the oddsmakers out in the desert set the betting lines for the upcoming slate in college football, including Kentucky’s trip to Vanderbilt. The ‘Cats opened as a two-touchdown betting favorite (-14) in that one, with a total of 50.5 points.
I can’t write “good luck if you drive to one of our neighboring states” anymore. It was a long KSR tradition.
Monday Night Football Doubleheader
Week 2 of the NFL was exciting, but it’s not done yet. There are TWO games left on the schedule, a Monday Night Football doubleheader across the ABC/ESPN family of networks. First, the Saints and Panthers kick off in Charlotte at 7:15 p.m. on ESPN. An hour later, the Steelers host the Browns in Pittsburgh with an 8:15 p.m. start on ABC.
Three Wildcats–Lynn Bowden, Landon Young, and Lonnie Johnson Jr.–will suit up for New Orleans in the first game. Za’Darius Smith is the lone UK alum in the second.
KSR coming up at 10 a.m.
Matt Jones and Ryan Lemond are at KSBar and Grille for two new hours of Kentucky Sports Radio with their takes on Kentucky-Akron.
