Today is a great day to watch Kentucky football practice. For just the second time since 2019, Mark Stoops will open his doors to the media for a beautiful morning of Kentucky football. Kentucky Sports Radio will all have all hands on deck to share sight and sounds from the practice. Posts, podcasts, videos, social media, you name it, we’ll have it this afternoon for you to consume.

There’s Always Money in the Banana Stand

Today we’ll get to see Kentucky’s QB1 in action for the first time as the Wildcats’ starter. Will it be as exhilarating as watching Levis down an entire banana? Doubtful.

Cats got Jokes

Preseason practice can devolve into a long slog. The UK video crew is breaking up the monotony before practice. Today we’re getting a heavy dose of jokes that will certainly put a smile on your face.

A New Big Blue Madness?

The BBN will not have to wait until October to meet the 2021-22 Kentucky Wildcats. John Calipari’s basketball team is tipping off the NIL era with the “Players First Fan Fest” Aug. 29 at Rupp Arena. For less than $20 a person, you can watch your favorite Wildcats in a dunk contest, three-point shout out, skills competition and more. It’s a great idea to get the fans and the entire team involved on the NIL action.

Tyrese Maxey calls it a Summer

The former Kentucky Wildcat was incredible for the Philadelphia 76ers this summer in Vegas. He was so good, it begged ESPN to ask the question, ‘Why was Maxey even playing in the first place?’

Among the handful of second-year players who look like they have no reason to be playing summer league basketball, Maxey leads the list. Less than two months ago, Maxey scored 16 points off the bench to help the Sixers win Game 6 of their playoff series against the Hawks in Atlanta and force a deciding Game 7 at home, so it’s no surprise he has overwhelmed opponents at this level of competition.

In 58 minutes, Maxey scored 52 points (averaging 26 per game, the highest of anyone in Las Vegas) before heading home to host a youth camp. Without him, a Philadelphia squad that started 2-0 lost by 20 on Saturday to the undefeated Boston Celtics.

Today is the final day of the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas. Olivier Sarr was one of Monday’s top performers, finishing with 18 points, 13 rebounds and three assists. Isaiah Jackson put a bow on his first few months as a Pacer by tying the Summer League block record with seven swatted shots in a single contest. Not too shabby.

Reds in the Field of Dreams

The Field of Dreams game between the Yankees and White Sox was a smashing success for Major League Baseball. They’re capturing lightning in a bottle and running it back in 2022, bringing the Cincinnati Reds and the Chicago Cubs to the Iowa cornfields for a midsummer meeting beneath the lights. The Reds make the most sense as the next team up in the series.

If you recall, Shoeless Joe Jackson and the Chicago Black Sox were a central storyline to the 1989 film. The 1919 World Series was thrown by Chicago in a betting scandal, leaving the Reds victorious in eight games.

Jack Pilgrim Needs Your Help

Before Jack Pilgrim was a college freshman interviewing for a KSR internship, he spent much of his free time volunteering with the Best Buddies organization. A program not so different than Big Brother/Little Brother, Jack is one of many that volunteers his time to enhance the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. After seven years with the charity, he’s been nominated for Best Buddies Champion of the Year. To reach the finish line, he needs your help raising $3,000 by Sept. 30. Sources Say Pilgrim appreciates any donation, large or small, to help a cause near and dear to his heart.
