Good morning, friends. It was a rough Monday for the state of Kentucky following the mass shooting in downtown Louisville that killed six people, including the gunman, and injured eight more. Headlines like that are far too common these days. Last night, John Calipari offered his support on social media.

“Our state has been through so much lately and now this,” Calipari tweeted. “I am speechless about what happened today in Louisville and the lives lost. Kentuckians always come together when one of us is hurting and I hope we all come to support the families devastated by today’s tragedy.”

Between the shooting in Louisville and the tragic passing of 17-year-old Andrew Dodson, whose father called into KSR yesterday, now seems like a great time to reach out to someone you love and let them know it. Life is too short not to.

Transitioning from that to what’s happening in the world of UK sports isn’t easy, but let’s do it.

Third annual Schlarman Strong Alumni Golf Scramble

This afternoon, the Kentucky Football family will gather to remember the late great John Schlarman at the third annual Schlarman Strong Alumni Golf Scramble. Many former players are in town for the event, which takes place at Keene Run Golf Course. KSR will be on the course to catch up with many of them and bring you some remarks from Mark Stoops and Leanne Schlarman. Check the site and YouTube Channel after lunch for the sights and sounds from the event.

Proceeds from today’s scramble go to the Schlarman family. Tickets are sold out, but if you’d like to make a donation, checks can be made out to:

Josh Pruitt
Director of Football Operations
Joe Craft Football Training Facility
295 Alumni Drive
Lexington, KY 40506

Please put “Schlarman Strong” in the notes section of the check.

Tonight’s Kentucky vs. Louisville baseball game postponed

The No. 12 Kentucky Baseball team was scheduled to play at No. 10 Louisville tonight, but in light of yesterday’s mass shooting, both schools agreed to postpone to a later date. At a media opportunity on Monday afternoon, head coach Nick Mingione offered his thoughts and prayers to those affected by the tragedy.

The Cats are 27-5 overall, 9-3 in SEC play following the series loss to Georgia, and dropped two spots in the polls. On Thursday, they hit the road for a weekend series at LSU.

The Tennessee Titans host Will Levis

Today’s a good day to be a Kentucky fan in Nashville, as Will Levis is in town to meet with the Tennessee Titans. The Titans hold the No. 11 pick in the NFL Draft later this month, but rumor has it they are considering trading up to the No. 3 pick to get Levis before he’s off the board. Mike Vrabel and staff came to Levis’ Pro Day in Lexington last month (and dined at KSBar). Will they tab him to usher us out of the Ryan Tannehill era? Fingers crossed.

I may have to slip down to Nissan Stadium to do a little investigative journalism…

Two Transfer Portal Notes

After a busy weekend for roster rumblings, Monday provided a few news nuggets. First, according to On3’s Joe Tipton, John Calipari spoke with Stanford transfer Harrison Ingram, a former McDonald’s All-American and five-star recruit. Ingram was named Pac-12 Freshman of the Year in 2021-22 and as a sophomore, averaged 10.5 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 3.7 assists while shooting 40.8% from the field and 31.9% from three. Prior to yesterday’s call with Cal, North Carolina was considered the frontrunner for the 6’7″ 230 lbs. small forward’s services. Kansas and Michigan are also in the conversation. Something to keep an eye on.

Secondly, Oregon transfer Kel’el Ware committed to Indiana. Ware could have been an option for Kentucky’s frontcourt if Ugonna Onyenso decided to stay in the transfer portal and go elsewhere, but now that a return to Kentucky is on the table for Ugo, there’s no need.

Louisville native picked in the Top 10 of WNBA Draft

Last night was the WNBA Draft, and while no Kentucky Wildcats were selected, a Kentucky native did hear her name called. Louisville native Grace Berger, who played for Indiana, was selected No. 7 by the Indiana Fever. The former Sacred Heart standout played five seasons at Indiana, finishing with 1,841 points, 573 assists, and 752 rebounds.

Lin Dunn, formerly an assistant on Kentucky’s staff, is now the general manager of the Fever and was the one to call the pick in.
