KSR’s High School Football Final Regular Season Rankings

Troy Howellby:Troy Howell10/30/23

The 2023 Kentucky high school football regular season is in the books. Boyle County remains in the top spot — which they’ve held all season long — after an impressive 28-7 win at Frederick Douglass in a top-five matchup on Friday. The Rebels are on a collision course to host No. 2 Corbin in the Class 4A quarterfinals. The Redhounds were off this past week.

Elsewhere, Lexington Catholic moved up six spots to No. 16 after a 21-20 home victory over Scott County, which fell 10 spots to No. 18. Undefeated Hart County jumped three spots to No. 22 to cap off its perfect regular season while Ashland Blazer fell five spots after just barely sneaking past Simon Kenton (5-4) in the Kroger KSR Game of the Week.

Next up: the postseason.

The playoff formula is complex and confusing, with sister districts and district seeding controlling rounds one and two, re-bracketing before the quarterfinals based on geography and RPI, and re-bracketing again for the semifinals based on RPI. The final RPI numbers, which are locked in and will not change, can be found here

The playoffs start this week — with some games actually moved to Thursday due to the lack of officials — and the first round will be blowout city. That being said, I’ve included tweets with some exciting likely playoff matchups to look forward to. You can find a link to my podcast previewing the entire playoffs here and the final regular season rankings below.
