Troy Howellby:Troy Howell11/27/23

The semifinals of the 2023 Kentucky high school football playoffs are in the books. As a result, only six games separate six teams from being crowned state champions later this weekend. All six games are set for December 1 and 2 at Kroger Field in Lexington.

As we look ahead to the final days of the 2023 season, it’s time to unveil our pre-state championship Top 25 rankings. You can find those below, along with a schedule for the six championship battles. But let’s first briefly recap what happened a few days ago in the semifinals.

This past Friday, No. 5 Christian Academy-Louisville routed Lexington Catholic 43-8 in the Kroger KSR Game of the Week, causing the Knights to fall nine spots to No. 23. Other big movers in this week’s rankings update include Cooper, which moved up six spots to No. 17 after knocking off Highlands 17-15, which fell nine spots to No. 18. The win marked Cooper’s third straight playoff victory on the road this postseason.

Meanwhile, No. 1 Boyle County and No. 3 Covington Catholic each remain undefeated, setting up a must-watch 4A championship showdown on Friday night. Additionally, Bell County cracked the Top 25 after taking down previously undefeated Hart County in the 3A semifinals.

It was another fun season on the gridiron across Kentucky in 2023. Let’s close it out with a bang this weekend.
