Kyle Wiltjer opens up about Calipari and leaving Kentucky

Kyle Wiltjer is putting together quite the season at Gonzaga, leading the #6 Bulldogs in scoring with 16.5 points per game. After transferring from Kentucky in 2013, Wiltjer has remodeled his body and game so much that some people think he's an All-American candidate. Yeah, really. Wiltjer recently did an interview with SportsNet's Dave Zarum about his decision to leave Kentucky and why he'll always be close with his former coach, John Calipari. In fact, Wiltjer said that Calipari was extremely helpful in his decision to transfer. "He was awesome through all of that, a big help," Wiltjer said. "And that’s rare because a lot of coaches, if you asked to leave, they’d turn the other cheek and the decision would be on you. But he wanted me to be successful and wanted me to find the right fit as well." Wiltjer said that when it comes to Cal, it's all about loyalty. "He’s very loyal. If you’re in his system and give it your all, no matter how much you contribute he’s in your corner. He’s a very personable guy and gets a lot of attention nationally, he’s in the spotlight. But he really cares and has checked up on me along the way, letting me know he’s always there and wishes me the best." We all do. Once a Goonie, always a Goonie.
