Lansing State Journal warns Tyler Ulis he'll be discarded at Kentucky

tyler-ulis Tyler Ulis and Devin Booker are currently visiting Michigan State before they head to the Bluegrass, and the Lansing State Journal has a word of warning for the pint-sized point guard. In a column this morning, Graham Couch warns Ulis that he should be careful about Kentucky because it's "a program that doesn’t take his kind very often and, history shows, has no problem discarding what it doesn’t want as soon as it doesn’t need it":
This Sunday, he ought to touch the court in Lexington and channel a “Hoosiers” moment: “This one is for all the small guards who never had a chance to get here.” And then Ulis ought to be careful. Because Kentucky is a program that doesn’t take his kind very often and, history shows, has no problem discarding what it doesn’t want as soon as it doesn’t need it.
Seriously? Couch says that Ulis could get the shaft if Andrew Harrison decides to come back for a second season, or if Cal recruits the number one point guard in 2015 and Ulis sticks around for his sophomore season. He argues that Ulis will get pushed to the side in the one-and-done system, whereas at Michigan State (or Iowa), he'll get a more rewarding, 4-year experience:
Ulis would be wise to make sure he doesn’t jump at the glitz and prestige of his latest suitor at the expense of his college basketball experience.
I think Couch is the one underestimating Ulis here. I doubt Cal would be recruiting Ulis if he didn't think he was capable of competing with the best. He's already said that Ulis plays bigger than his size, and the offer alone should count as a vote of confidence. This just makes me want Ulis even more. Come on down and enjoy your weekend, Tyler.
