Kentucky RB La'Vell Wright enters transfer portal

The spring transfer portal window does not open until next week, but the player movement has started a slow leak this week. Kentucky’s first post-spring roster departure occurred on Wednesday. New offensive coordinator Bush Hamdan is down to five scholarship players at tailback.

La’Vell Wright has entered the transfer portal after graduating from the University of Kentucky. The class of 2021 signee spent three seasons with the program and will be a redshirt junior in 2024 with two years of eligibility remaining.

Under offensive coordinator Rich Scangarello as a redshirt freshman in 2022, La’Vell Wright saw action in all 13 games recording 39 carries for 120 yards and six receptions for 28 yards. However, an injury forced Wright to miss the entire 2023 season after taking a redshirt in 2021.

The former three-star prospect at Radcliff (Ky.) North Hardin rushed for 4,019 yards and 53 touchdowns over his last three years of high school football. La’Vell Wright picked Kentucky over Maryland, Northwestern, and West Virginia.

The spring transfer portal window for undergraduate transfers opens on Tuesday, April 16.
