Lexington restaurant falls to eventual champion in 'America's Best Burrito' bracket

burrito FiveThiryEight.com spent the last year trying 67,391 burritos across the United States, and a small Mexican restaurant/grocery in Lexington made its final bracket of 64 contenders. Taqueria y Tortilleria Ramirez, located on Alexandria Drive just off of Versailles Road, made a strong run in the tournament of tastes. Its Carne Asada Burrito received one of the highest overall scores in the entire contest, but ran into a tough competitor in San Francisco's La Taqueria in the second round. La Taqueria received a second round score of 95/100, one point higher than Taqueria y Tortilleria's 94/100, to advance. In the end it was La Taqueria that took home the grand prize, beating out 67,390 other burritos in America. But it says a lot about Lexington's own Taqueria y Tortilleria that it was two points shy of knocking the champ out before the Final Four. And if you won't take FiveThirtyEight's word for it, TRUST ME -- this place is the real deal. I go once a week, if not more. It's better than anything you'll get anywhere else and for a very affordable price. They recently raised the price of the Carne Asada from something like $5.50 to a little over six bucks. The tacos are excellent, too. I'll see you there.
