FINAL: Kentucky defeats WKU, moves to 11-1 on the season

Kentucky finishes today’s game 88-70. The win over WKU gives the ‘Cats an 11-1 record heading into SEC play next week. Kentucky plays Jan. 2 against Mississippi State at Memorial Coliseum.

Georgia Amoore and Clara Strack finish with 21 points apiece, while Teonni Key and Saniah Tyler finish with 15 and 11 points, respectively.

‘Cats cross 80

With four minutes to go, Kentucky crosses the 80-point mark to take a 16-point lead over WKU. All the ‘Cats need to do now is close out, but they’ve only made one shot of their last seven.

The ‘Cats end the third quarter up 18 on the Hilltoppers. Thanks to 14 points from Amoore, 14 from Strack, 12 from Key, and 11 from Tyler, Kentucky has a solid lead going into the final 10 minutes. With 11 rebounds, Clara Strack has already marked a double-double.

For WKU, Alexis Mead is the only player in double-digits with 14 points. Kentucky’s held the Hilltoppers to 16-44 (36%) from the field and only 3-14 (21%) from three.

Saniah Tyler’s best game of the season

This far into the season, the junior hasn’t seen much playing time. Today, however, Tyler has played a total of eight minutes with 11 points on 4-5 FG (3-4 3FG). There’s no argument that this is her best game of the season.

The ‘Cats are heating up, with three players in double-digits and one close behind. So far in the third, the ‘Cats 5-9 (55%) from the field, and held the Hilltoppers to 3-10 (30%).

Kentucky takes double-digit lead at the half

For the first time in the game, the ‘Cats take a double-digit lead over the Hilltoppers. WKU takes a timeout and Clara Strack extends the lead to end the half. Teonni Key and Strack lead the ‘Cats with 10 points apiece.

Leading her team with eight points, Teonni Key is 4-6 (66%) from the field. Amoore has yet to score in the second due to early foul trouble, along with Lawrence, Strack, Blue, Rowe, and Silva. Amelia Hassett has the only other second quarter basket for the ‘Cats. Plus, Kentucky is only outscoring the Hilltoppers 8-7.

The ‘Cats are 1-11 from the perimeter

Despite a five-point lead, Kentucky is only 1-11 (9%) from the perimeter. Luckily, Teonni Key is now dominating in the paint, scoring six points in the last five minutes for her team. Maybe the Teonni Key Takeover will continue out of the half…

The ‘Cats finish the first quarter on a 6-2 run to take a four point lead over the Hilltoppers. Amoore continues to lead her team with five points. Clara Strack is close behind with four. Key, Lawrence, Silva, and Hassett each still have two.

Kentucky facing three minute scoring drought

Kentucky hasn’t scored in about three minutes. WKU used that to its advantage, scoring five points to tie the game with the Wildcats at 11.

Only five minutes into the matchup, Kentucky has a solid five-point lead over the Hilltoppers. Amoore leads the ‘Cats with three points, while Lawrence, Strack, Hassett, and Key each have two.

In-state battle? Kentucky shows out

With Bowling Green just a couple hours down the road from Lexington, its no surprise that Western Kentucky fans made the drive to Memorial Coliseum to watch the Hilltoppers. Regardless, UK fans mostly fill the stands.
