Former Kentucky star Lynn Bowden Jr. will be taking his talents to New England, signing a practice squad deal with the Patriots.

ESPN’s Field Yates was the first to break the news.

Bowden spent his first two seasons with the Miami Dolphins, but was released during 53-man roster cuts this week. He caught 28 passes for 211 yards in 10 games as a rookie in 2020 and missed all of 2021 while on injured reserve.

Despite the release, Bowden shined this preseason, picking up 55 yards and a touchdown in the opener vs. Tampa Bay, along with a 39-yard touchdown vs. Philadelphia this past Saturday.

The former Wildcat was drafted in the third round by the Raiders in 2020, but was traded to the Dolphins before his rookie debut.

During his historic career in Lexington, Bowden racked up an absurd 2,833 yards from scrimmage and 19 touchdowns over three seasons, including 1,530 rushing and 1,303 receiving. Taking over as Kentucky’s starting quarterback in 2019, he led the Wildcats with 1,468 yards and 13 touchdowns on the ground to go with 403 yards and three touchdowns through the air. After going 6-2 as the team’s starter, Bowden took home the Paul Hornung Award, given each year to college football’s most versatile player.

Now, the former Wildcat hopes to bring that same magic with him to New England.
