Malik Monk still doing Malik Monk things in the NBA

A door opened for Malik Monk when Nicolas Batum suffered an elbow injury that will keep him out up to eight months. Batum was to be the Charlotte Hornets’ starting shooting guard, but that spot is now up for grabs in a competition between Monk and veteran Jeremy Lamb.

Monk made a strong case for it to be him, in a preseason game last night.

The former Wildcat led the Hornets with 21 points in a loss to the Boston Celtics. He even surprised fans by moving over to point guard, where he provided some much-needed energy at the position.

Then there is this: a three-pointer late in the game to keep his team close — a shot we saw more than once when Monk was wearing Kentucky blue in Lexington.
