The Tide rolled LSU Saturday night. The once vulnerable Alabama football team is now ranked No. 8 and looks like a team that can win the National Title. Kentucky needs to be at full strength against Nick Saban’s squad. Will Devin Leary be ready to play Saturday at Kroger Field?

The Kentucky quarterback threw for two touchdown passes on the road trip to Mississippi State. Looking to punch it in for a final dagger in the second half, he was hit hard on a pass to Barion Brown in the end zone. Leary temporarily exited the game. The Cats called a timeout and he returned, but the offense was forced to settle for a field goal. He played one more drive before coaching staff sent him to the sideline for Kayia Sheron.

Following the 24-3 win over Mississippi State, Mark Stoops said there was “something in his eye” affecting the quarterback’s vision. The Kentucky head coach does not like to get into too many details about specific injuries. He did not confirm if Leary will be available vs. Alabama, however, he did provide an optimistic update on his quarterback Monday morning.

“He was having a hard time reading off the wrist band at that moment,” Stoops said. “He can read it now.”

The head coach added that the team is beat up, dealing with bumps and bruises, as most teams are this time of the year. Defensive lineman Darrion Henry-Young suffered an apparent knee injury but Stoops could not confirm if it was season-ending.

Leary is only completing 57.1% of his passes this season for Kentucky, but the NC State transfer has improved since the bye week. He’s tossed four touchdowns, 528 yards and zero interceptions in the last two weeks.

Kentucky Running Back Injured after a Play

Things were chippy between Mississippi State and Kentucky. It felt like there was extra pushing and shoving after every special teams play. Following one kickoff, JuTahn McClain suffered an apparent neck injury. Mark Stoops did not see it at the time, but the UK running back got his head jerked around by a Mississippi State player who was on the sideline.

“I saw the video on the plane,” said Stoops. “Obviously, I was very alarmed by that. You never want to see a young man hurt, let alone when the game is not being planed.”

The Kentucky head coach submitted the video to the SEC league offices for further review.
