Aveion Chenault, a class of 2025 wide receiver out of Lexington’s Frederick Douglass High School, is a prospect that Kentucky football fans should go ahead and learn about now.

Clocking in at 6-foot-2, 170 pounds, the rising junior announced an offer from the Michigan Wolverines on Wednesday afternoon. Chenault tagged Michigan defensive backs coach Steve Clinkscale, who was once the defensive backs at Kentucky from 2016-20, in his tweet. Clinkscale, still familiar with the area, is looking to poach one of the fastest-rising recruits in the Bluegrass State.

This offer marked the sixth Divison I offer for Chenault, who has also received scholarships from Kentucky, West Virginia, Illinois, Eastern Kentucky, and Miami (OH). The Wildcats reached out earlier in the spring on March 16 with associate head coach Vince Marrow extending an offer.

Chenault is considered one of the top all-around athletes in the state, doubling as a star basketball player for Frederick Douglass. He averaged 13.2 points and 5.6 rebounds per game on 57.6 percent shooting in 34 outings as a sophomore for the Broncos, helping lead the program to the KHSAA Sweet 16 semifinals. Chenault became known for his highlight blocks and dunks during Frederick Douglass’ postseason run.

On the football field, Chenault possesses equally impressive athleticism. He’s previously recorded a 40-inch standing vertical and unofficially ran the 40-yard dash in 4.54 seconds just last month. The local prospect was invited to the Rivals Camp Series last month up in Cincinnati, OH. He’s a long receiver who can attack jump balls at the apex.

Kentucky has had plenty of success recruiting out for Frederick Douglass in the past, with four former Broncos currently on the Wildcats’ roster — sophomore WR Dane Key, sophomore WR Dekel Crowdus, sophomore OL Jager Burton, and freshman DB Ty Bryant. There are also a handful of 2024 recruits from FDHS being recruited by UK.

Broncos head coach Nathan McPeek says Chenault is “not as polished as Dane (Key) but (has) similar athleticism.” While not currently ranked by the On3 Industry Ranking, Chenault is considered a three-star prospect by 247Sports and the sixth-best rising junior in the state.
