Zach Yenser on Kentucky's Offensive Line

Now is the best time to get excited about Kentucky football. If you couldn’t tell Wednesday morning on Kentucky Sports Radio, Freddie Maggard believes the potential is sky high for the Cats. Some may dismiss the former Wildcat QB as one who analyzes through blue-tinted glasses. Since he shared his optimistic outlook on Devin Leary and the Kentucky offense, notable names throughout the national college football landscape have joined the bandwagon.

Whether you prefer legacy media or digital new media from the blogosphere, the loudest mouths in college football are believing the Kentucky football hype. Let’s start with someone who hosted KSR while Matt was on vacation, Barstool’s Brandon Walker.

Walker is a Will Levis hater, but that’s not just a backhanded compliment. After all, we have more evidence from others that Kentucky will in fact be awesome.

Former Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy just got a promotion from ESPN to the No. 2 college football broadcasting crew. He appears on a variety of shows for the four-letter network. On College Football Live he was asked to rank the top offensive coordinators in college football and Liam Coen came in at No. 5.

It wasn’t a one-off compliment for the Cats. Within 24 hours he was singing the Wildcats’ praises on Always College Football. McElroy played out the scenario for Georgia failing to secure the top spot in the SEC East and had nothing but complimentary things to say about Coen and the Kentucky offense.

Josh Pate takes Heat from Tennessee for giving Kentucky Praise

The host of Late Kick with Josh Pate was preparing for his YouTube Show when he fired off a Tweet: “Some of the best intel I’m hearing from any camp is coming out of Kentucky. They’ll be a problem.”

Tennessee fans responded with hundreds of angry messages. I’m sure Pate’s phone was buzzing all day with notifications. He saved his retort for his nightly program and the Cats were the second team on the docket.

“You know Devin Leary’s coming in and he’s starting at quarterback for them and he’s replacing Will Levis. Pregame magazine culture will lead you to believe that a program ‘like Kentucky’ cannot lose a guy the caliber of Will Levis and just keep on ticking. I’m going to do you one better and I’m not alone on this, by the way. There are people really informed around the program that feel the same way (thanks for the shout out, Josh).

“I’m going to suggest to you they can lose Will Levis and improve at quarterback. It doesn’t just have to do with Devin Leary, but bringing Liam Coen back as your offensive coordinator also has a lot to do with this,” said Pate.

That was only the beginning of the nice things Pate had to say about the Cats’ quarterback. As you’ve heard from your friends on Kentucky Sports Radio, he’s exceeded expectations on the practice field in August.

“They hit a grand slam. Can you imagine if Devin Leary was in Tuscaloosa, Alabama right now? Kentucky got him. There’s a world where Kentucky has the best quarterback in the SEC this year, and I’m talking about pound for pound, all things considered,” said Pate. “There’s a world where that happens. That means there’s a world where Kentucky is really good.”

It is just fall camp. Zero games have been played. But saying this fall camp has been the “best case scenario” for the Cats is much better than the alternative.

Pate added: “They got a really good quarterback at Kentucky this year.”
