NCAA proposal would only lift transfer restrictions after coaching change
When word spread a few weeks ago that the NCAA might change their rules to allow transfers immediate eligibility, everyone feared college sports was about to turn into free agency. A new report out today should calm those fears.
According to CBS Sports, the proposal the NCAA is considering would only lift transfer restrictions following a coaching change or in the event a postseason ban is handed down by the NCAA. That means players in those scenarios would not have to sit out a year, which is the current rule. Coaches would no longer be allowed to block student-athletes from transferring to a particular school as well.
That makes a heck of a lot more sense.
