Kentucky Baseball Advances To Omaha

The waiting finally ended after the clock struck midnight on the east coast on Sunday morning. The Kentucky baseball program will be playing in its first College World Series next weekend in Omaha.

Nick Mingione’s ballclub improved to 5-0 in postseason play at Kentucky Proud Park by completing a two-game sweep over No. 15 seed Oregon State in the super regional. The celebration was one many will remember for a very long time.

After the madness in front of another record crowd, Nick Mingione and multiple Kentucky players discussed the big win.

“My heart is filled with gratitude. So proud of these players, coaches, staff, former players, former coaches, former staff members that have just poured so much into this program. Thankful for our fans. Big Blue Nation was unbelievable these last three weeks,” Mingione said in his opening statement. “Even dating back to the last regular season series of the year. Just absolutely incredible. Our fans really showed out and this is my plea to get them to come to Omaha.”

Nolan McCarthy’s slide ended up being the difference in the one-run game. The pitching staff somehow found a way to work around nine walks. That is giving fans all across the Bluegrass the opportunity to find a way to get to Omaha next weekend.
