[caption id="attachment_297772" align="alignnone" width="1200"] WLKY[/caption] The top-ranked running back in the state of Kentucky will be a Wildcat. Wednesday morning La'Vell Wright announced on Kentucky Sports Radio that he has committed to the University of Kentucky. Wright held scholarship offers from Northwestern, Boston College, Tennessee, Missouri, Vanderbilt, West Virginia and Purdue, among others. A three-star recruit, Rivals ranks Wright as the No. 5 player in the state of Kentucky. The Wildcats have not signed a scholarship running back from the Commonwealth in 16 years, dating back to Louisville Waggener's Alfonso Smith in 2005 (Simon Kenton's Miles Simpson switched to linebacker in Lexington). https://twitter.com/lavell3421/status/1258040675221884930 The addition of Wright grows Kentucky's 2021 recruiting class to seven. He's the fourth commitment in the last two weeks, following wide receivers Armond Scott, Chauncey Magwood and defensive lineman Kahlil Saunders. A powerful runner, Wright excels between the tackles. In 2019 he rushed for 1,910 yards and 26 touchdowns to lead North Hardin to a 13-1 record alongside UK defensive lineman Octavious Oxendine. North Hardin head coach Brent Thompson believes Wright's future is bright. "La'Vell has some good vision. He's able to see things that a lot of other runners can't see," Thompson told WLKY. "He'll cut back. But also, he's a powerful runner. If you go in there and arm tackle him, he's going to run through an arm tackle." Watch Wright roll through opponents easily in this highlight compilation from his junior season.
