Ole Miss receives NCAA sanctions

by: Mrs. Tyler Thompson12/01/17@MrsTylerKSR

You know who’s really grateful for the mess at Tennessee? Ole Miss.

This morning, the NCAA handed down their sanctions in Ole Miss’ recruiting scandal and the Rebels received an additional postseason bowl ban, more scholarship deductions, a four-year probation, and show-cause penalties for every coach named in the investigation, including former coach Hugh Freeze. Ole Miss was accused of 15 Level I violations, including lack of institutional control, for fixing test scores and allowing boosters to give players and recruits improper benefits.

Ole Miss self-imposed a bowl ban for this season, so per the NCAA’s sanctions, they will be ineligible for postseason play next year as well. Add in all of the scholarship deductions, probation, and fines, and, well, you can see they decided to keep interim coach Matt Luke on board.

In a rare moment of common sense, the NCAA has agreed to allow Ole Miss seniors to transfer without penalty because of the 2018 bowl ban. So, that’s good.
