When Olivier Sarr decided to transfer to Kentucky, he brought more than just his basketball abilities to Lexington. On Thursday afternoon, the Wildcat center and former Wake Forest Demon Deacon was named to the Southeastern Conference's Community Service Team. Sarr, a native of Bordeaux, France and one of the team's three captains, is the representative for Kentucky and is one of 14 players selected from each of the 14 SEC programs. https://twitter.com/KentuckyMBB/status/1367611491784998916 During his time at both Kentucky and Wake Forest, Sarr has consistently been an impactful member across the respective areas. According to the press release sent out by UK, Sarr "has engaged in nearly 100 hours of community service throughout his collegiate career split between Wake Forest and Kentucky. Some of his favorite projects include: 'Project Pumpkin,' which was a Halloween-themed carnival for kids, 'Hit the Bricks,' a run to raise awareness and funds for cancer research, 'Campus Kitchens,' where he would deliver meals to needy neighborhoods, and his visits to the local children’s hospital. The hospital visits are what he lists as the most meaningful to him as he interacted with patients and families of children faced with life-threatening injuries and illnesses." The ongoing pandemic caused by COVID-19 has limited Sarr's ability to do even more, but he did participate in the annual Christmas drive along with several virtual interactions and visits. He was also one of the driving voices behind the players-driven public message that the team released over the summer regarding social injustices across the country. Sarr was robbed of all the positives that come with playing in front of the Big Blue Nation, but he never let that stop him from making an impact.
