Kentucky running back Ray Davis is well on his way to hearing his name called in the NFL Draft. There’s still a long way to go in that process, part of which includes a trip to Indianapolis for the NFL Scouting Combine.

Davis is the first former Wildcat to receive an invitation to the Combine. He shared a thank you on his Instagram story shortly after receiving the news from the NFL.

This year’s NFL Scouting Combine will be held at Lucas Oil Stadium during the first week of March. Davis and the rest of the prospective running backs will be the last to take the field on Sunday, March 5.

Kentucky has a light NFL Draft class in 2024. There are a handful of other players participating in postseason showcases, but Davis might be the only sure-fire selection in April. Dru Phillips, Devin Leary and the Kentucky offensive linemen are fringe prospects that might have to wait until free agency to find an NFL home.

(I wrote all of that and almost forgot about Trevin Wallace, whoops. Surely Wallace will hear his name called as well, but when exactly is unclear this early in the process. I’d expect him to join Davis at the Combine in Indy.)

Davis has all but secured a spot in the NFL thanks to consistent production at the college level. He was 64 yards away from tallying three 1,000-yard seasons in five years at three different schools. Davis surpassed that milestone in consecutive seasons to conclude his career and led the SEC in touchdowns from scrimmage with 21, setting a new school record. The explosive playmaker will provide value as a pass-catcher. He led Kentucky in receiving touchdowns and showed that he’s not afraid to do a little dirty work by lowering his pads in pass protection.

2025 could be a Big Year for Kentucky at the NFL Draft

2023 was the Will Levis NFL Draft for the Kentucky football program. Next year it will be the Deone Walker draft. Sadly, we’re missing a trip to his hometown of Detroit, the site of the 2024 NFL Draft. Nevertheless, the big defensive lineman is well on his way to becoming one of the most coveted defensive line prospects in the ’25 draft class and a first round selection.

Deone Walker will not be alone either. Incoming linebacker Jamon Dumas-Johnson will be a mid-round selection and Max Hairston may also find himself in the mix if he can continue to produce at a high level. Offensively, the talented pass-catchers will certainly be able to make their case with a quality 2024 campaign. Kentucky has had two wide receivers drafted since 2011. Ja’Mori Maclin, Barion Brown and Dane Key may all hear their names called in 2025.
