For the first time since 2013, the Kentucky Baseball team (20-8, 6-3) has won its third consecutive SEC series to open the season. The Batcats bounced back after a tough 14-5 loss to open the weekend against Tennessee with a 5-4 victory Saturday, and put an exclamation point on the road trip with a decisive 10-2 win to clinch the series this afternoon. Let's get to the box score and some notes from big win.

school_logo_large_dark Kyle Cody delivered yet again. The senior put in some serious work on the mound today, going seven complete and allowing only two runs on five hits. His secret? Getting ahead in the count.

After another rough start by Zack Brown on Friday, you have to wonder if a change will be made to the weekend rotation. There's nothing wrong with what Kentucky's doing right now - turning to the experienced duo of Beggs/Cody to bounce back and win series against some of the best competition in the country, but it'll be interesting to see how or if Gary Henderson experiments with other options and getting them prepared for conference play with midweek starts. Right now, though, I think he's pretty content to leave Knoxville with another series win. school_logo_large_darkGunnar McNeill made history. With a single up the middle in the top of the fifth, the transfer DH extended his hitting streak to a school-record 23 games. Throw in a double and two runs scored, and you have a pretty solid day at the ballpark. For the record, the NCAA record is 58 consecutive, set by Oklahoma State's Robin Ventura in 1987. Just throwing it out there. school_logo_large_darkBig day for Zach Reks and Troy Squires. The junior left fielder drove in two runs on a 3-for-5 afternoon, and the sophomore catcher matched with three RBI of his own on a two-out two-run double in the top of the second and a sac fly in the top of the eighth. school_logo_large_darkThirteen hits for the Kentucky lineup. That'll do. The Batcats are back in action on Wednesday when No. 8 Louisville comes to town for what should be a great midweek matchup. The team will follow with a weekend set against Alabama at Cliff Hagan. First pitch is scheduled for 7:30 Tuesday, and the game will be broadcast live on ESPNU as well. Stay tuned to KSR for updates and recaps of all the action. @brooksHoltonKSR
