Want to see most of the top high school basketball teams in the state play?  Make plans to attend the King of the Bluegrass Tournament at Louisville Fairdale High School from December 17-21

No. 2 Cov Cath, No. 3 George Rogers Clark, No. 5 Ashland, No. 7 North Laurel, No. 11 Dunbar, and No. 14 Lyon County, headline the loaded field.  Male, which was ranked third in the KSR preseason rankings, will be looking to regroup after a shaky start to the season. Plenty of in-state and out-of-state talent will participate in the weekend-long event.

Admission is $12 per day. If you want to watch UK commit Reed Sheppard to play I would advise arriving early. Sheppard and the North Laurel Jaguars play Louisville Eastern at 9:00 P.M. EST on Friday.

The prestigious tournament delivers great teams and players every single year. Past players include OJ Mayo, Rajon Rondo, Kenny Payne, Allan Houston, Derek Anderson, Muggsy Bogues, and Rex Chapman. The 2020 tournament was canceled due to COVID with Ballard winning the year before that. The Bruins, currently ranked No. 1 in Kentucky, were let out of their KOB contract and will play in the City of Palms Tournament in Ft. Myers, FL, where they will face perennial power IMG Academy in the first round.

KOTB particpants of note

  • North Laurel junior Reed Sheppard (Kentucky commit)
  • Male junior Kaleb Glenn (Louisville commit)
  • Lyon County sophomore Travis Perry (uncommitted; may break King Kelly Coleman’s all-time state scoring record)
  • Dorman (SC) senior Noah Clowney (Alabama commit)
  • Lake Highland (FL) senior Brice Sensabaugh (Ohio State commit)
  • Ensworth (TN) senior Malik Dia (Vanderbilt commit)
  • George Rogers Clark junior Jerone Morton
