On Sunday in Chicago, the order for the 2024 NBA Draft next month was unveiled on ESPN.

In a major shock, the Atlanta Hawks — which came in with the fifth-worst odds to secure the top pick at just three percent — had the balls fall in their favor. Now holding the top overall pick, it marks the first time in franchise history that Atlanta has won the lottery.

Will the Hawks end up drafting a former Wildcat? It’s certainly possible, although both of Kentucky’s projected lottery picks (Reed Sheppard and Rob Dillingham) play the same position as Atlanta’s two best players — Trae Young and Dejounte Murray. A trade could change that possibility, though.

Regardless, both Sheppard and Dillingham expect to hear their names called by Commissioner Adam Silver within the first 10 picks.

Could that be to the Washington Wizards (in desperate need of a guard or two) with the second overall pick? What about the San Antonio Spurs (looking for a long-term point guard to pair alongside Victor Wembanyama) with the fourth and eighth selections? The order has officially been set, so we’ll have a clearer idea of where these former ‘Cats could land as the weeks go along.

what it’s worth, immediately after the Lottery wrapped up, ESPN projected Sheppard to the Houston Rockets at No. 3 and Dillingham to the Spurs at No. 4.

And another thing: if Sheppard and Dillingham show up to the NBA Draft wearing anything close to what they had on at the Lottery, they’ll be dressed to the nines.

The 2024 NBA Draft is set for June 26 and 27 in Brooklyn, NY. The NBA Combine, held in Chicago, begins on Monday and runs through next Sunday.
