Could former Louisville head coach be headed back to the states? At least one organization may be interested in making it happen. According to Hall of Fame journalist Peter Vecsey, Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert has been in contact with Pitino about their head coaching vacancy. https://twitter.com/petervecsey1/status/1119780957026799616?s=21 Back in October, Pitino told Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN that he’s interested in returning to the NBA and has been studying the league. “I just want to be a part of an organization,” he said. “I want to develop young players. I want to be part of a team. I miss it terribly. I’m using this time to really study the NBA. If something opens up with a young basketball team, I’d have deep interest in it.” He added that his coaching style would translate to today’s NBA game with ease. “I think the league is going to get younger and player development will become even more important to every organization,” he said. “That’s my forte. I believe I can help an organization find a pathway to success.” Pitino coached Greek team Panathinaikos this past season, leading them to the Greek Cup Championship. He had NBA coaching stints with the New York Knicks and the Boston Celtics before transitioning to the college game. [mobile_ad]
