Rhyne Howard is worth 100 times more than her scholarship says. Not only did she score the second-most points in the nation and win SEC Player of the Year this past season, now she’s out on the virtual recruiting trail.

The Kentucky sophomore guard was on Instagram calling for a “reunion” between herself, incoming five-star freshman guard Treasure Hunt, and Jazmine Massengill, a 6-foot sophomore guard who recently announced that she will be transferring from the University of Tennessee. Before she committed to the Lady Vols, Massengill was a consensus top-25 recruit and was named a 2018 McDonald’s All-American.

Massengill was named a permanent starter last season after starting guard Zaay Green suffered a season-ending injury after two games. In 30 starts as a sophomore, Massengill – who attended the same high school that Hunt is currently at – averaged 6.5 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game while playing 28.5 minutes per night for UT.

In addition to Hunt and Massengill sharing a common high school, Howard also attended high school in nearby Cleveland, TN, which is roughly 30 minutes away.

In two games against the ‘Cats this past season, Massengill posted six points, three rebounds, and three turnovers in the first matchup before registering six points, three rebounds, five assists, and three turnovers in the second meeting.

She vastly improved in her second season as a Lady Vol, as her numbers and scoring figures all saw significant increases. Her size allows her to do it all on both sides of the floor, although scoring is not her strong suit. She excels at playmaking and would fit nicely into Kentucky’s guard rotation with three prominent seniors leaving that position open. A potential starting lineup of Howard and Hunt on the wings, KeKe McKinney down low, with Chasity Patterson and Massengill in the backcourt could be a powerful starting five.
