Ryan Tydlacka keeps filling that trophy case

by: Matthew Hays10/24/11
Greatest punter of all time? If you were the person assigned the task of handing out the weekly awards to all of college football, would you want to spend any of your time watching UK? The answer is no... unless we're punting. Ryan Tydlacka has done it again. It seems like we get the news at the beginning of each week that he's been recognized for some kind of punting achievement from his past Saturday performance. This week he received honorable mention from the College Football Performance Awards and Martavius Neloms joins him. Neloms received College Football Performance Awards defensive back honorable mention this week for his eight tackles and his strip + fumble recovery + touchdown. Tydlacka kicked five times for an average of 45 yards per punt, including a 55 yarder. He is currently 20th in the nation averaging 44 yards per punt. However, that stat takes into account guys who have half the punts that Tydlacka has. For those 20 or so lucky punters who average over six kicks per game, Ryan has the sixth highest average punt total in the nation. It is sometimes overlooked, but try imagining this season without Ryan Tydlacka. In those early season games against Western Kentucky and Central Michigan when our offense was truly atrocious, his punts may have been the only thing that got us out of there with wins. He's going to be the most difficult player not named Danny Trevathan to replace next season. Don't look now, but UK is quickly gaining a reputation as Punter U. #RISE
