Sahvir Wheeler‘s time at Kentucky ended about as bizarrely as anyone who has ever left the program. We may never truly know the entirety of the story, but it is safe to say his departure wasn’t on the best of terms. Nonetheless, he now plays for the University of Washington and absolutely balled out in his first game with the Huskies.

The Wildcats traveled to the Bahamas last year for their foreign trip last year and just recently represented Team USA at GLOBL Jam in Canada, but Washington took their summer exhibition tour up a notch and traveled to Europe.

In their first game against the French team, Cerby-Pontoise, Wheeler put up 16 points and 16 assists leading to a 90-82 win. The team dubbed him player of the game and awarded him with an honorary purple beret and French baguette, with which he immediately began jamming on like a guitar.

The Huskies posted the scene on their official Men’s Basketball Instagram account and it immediately got some love from some familiar faces. Antonio Reeves, Adou Theirro, Lance Ware, and even Director of Player Development, TJ Beisner, were among Wheeler’s Kentucky brethren to show the former Wildcat for his tremendous debut.

Wheeler also led the Huskies in minutes played at 34 showing how quickly he has earned the trust of his new team.

Keion Brooks played well too

A few of Wheeler’s 16 assists went to another former Kentucky starter, Keion Brooks, who put up 21 points in the game including draining two out of three from behind the arc.

Brooks is entering what feels like his nineteenth season of college basketball but apparently, it is just his fifth. He averaged 17.7 points and 6.7 rebounds for Washington last season and now joins forces with his former teammate, Sahvir Wheeler.

Washington will visit the beaches of Normandy while they are in France for jettisoning off to Barcelona, Spain for two more exhibition games.

With so much roster turnover this offseason for Kentucky basketball, it feels like forever ago when Brooks and Wheeler were staples in the Wildcat rotation and beat eventual National Champion, Kansas, on their home floor. In my best Bob Dylan impersonation: The times, they are a-changin’.

Best of luck to these two this season.
