Goooooood morning! Anyone excited? I’m excited. Even with the football team… being the football team, I’m ready to see the Cats play in Lexington. And win. The team faces Kent State today as a seven-point favorite, and this game will be the perfect opportunity to make a statement to themselves and to the fans that they are here to compete. Barely sneak by, or dare I say lose the game, and you have completely lost what little fan support is clinging on. The attendance in Commonwealth Stadium today will be the first real representation since last November of how much Big Blue Nation has disassociated themselves with the football team. There will be plenty of people paying close attention to that. ************* -- CBS Sports breaks down the Kentucky vs. Kent State matchup tonight. For what it’s worth, the writer Larry Hartstein predicts a 20-17 Wildcats win. -- Anthony Davis is back in the Bluegrass for the first time since winning an Olympic gold medal. Davis signed autographs and took photos with about 300 people at Chevrolet on Nicholasville. -- He will be back in Lexington signing autographs and taking pictures with fans tomorrow at the Wildcat Warehouse in Fayette Mall from 12:30 to 2:30. Head out before going to your tailgate. -- Your 19th-ranked Kentucky volleyball team fell to the Oklahoma Sooners in a 3-1 defeat. Senior Ashley Frazier had a season-high 18 kills, and Stephanie Klefot logged a double-double with 13 kills and 15 digs. With the loss, the Cats fall to 6-3 on the season. -- The women’s soccer team knocked off No. 12 Louisville on the road Friday night, 2-0. Freshman Kelli Hubly and junior Natalie Horner each scored one goal apiece, as junior goalkeeper Kayla King pitched a shutout against the Cardinals attack. The Cats move to to a perfect 5-0-0 and take on Samford next. -- Former Duke player Lance Thomas is being sued for $68 grand in unpaid jewelry. As starter on the 2010 national championship team, Thomas spent nearly $100,000 on custom jewelry from a New York firm. He is being sued for the $67,800 in credit he still owes. It’s hard to imagine the kind of story this would already be had it taken place in Lexington. -- Keep Oakland Athletics pitcher Brandon McCarthy in your thoughts. He is currently in a "life-threatening situation" in a Bay Area hospital, two days after being hit in the head by a line drive from Los Angeles Angels’ batter Erick Aybar. McCarthy suffered an epidural hemorrhage, brain contusion and skull fracture. He underwent surgery following the accident to relieve pressure on his brain and is currently in stable condition. There is video, but it is graphic. Watch at your own risk. Yahoo, ESPN and others have removed the raw video from their online stories. Happy real-start-to-the-NFL-season eve. Go Cats.
