Score predictions for Week 1 of 2025 Kentucky high school football season

The 2025 Kentucky high school football season begins with a standalone game Thursday night up in Louisville between Shawnee and Iroquois, but the real fun gets going on Friday and Saturday.

Over 100 games will be played over the next few days across the Bluegrass, headlined by several top-25 matchups. Going off KSR’s preseason poll, we’re in for eight matchups between ranked schools. The KSR Game of the Week will take us to Lexington Christian Academy on Friday for a double-header to open the season, where we’ll be covering the first game featuring Bryan Station and No. 15 South Warren.

As we gear up for Week 1 action, we’re predicting the score for every major game on the docket for this weekend. Using the Massey Ratings — a system created in 1999 by statistician Kenneth Massey that was used to help determine the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) until 2013 — we are able to look up score predictions for every game happening across the state.

As a quick explanation, the Massey Ratings are computer ratings based on historical trends and current-year stats. With that in mind, it will need a few weeks’ worth of games before the numbers begin to hit their stride. However, you won’t find a more reliable system to use in terms of predicting scores throughout the first couple of weeks of the regular season.
