Scoreboard Rundown: 12 teams advance to high school football state championships

And then there were 12…
Friday’s semifinals cut the field of state champion candidates down to just a dozen schools across Kentucky’s six high school classes. Next weekend at Kroger Field, six teams will be crowned state title winners. We’ll have three games on Friday and three more on Saturday to wrap up the 2024 season.
For the likes of Sayre and Union County, this will be their first-ever trip to the state championship game. Ryle and Franklin County are making their second-ever appearances. On the other end of the spectrum, Trinity is making a 33rd appearance at Kroger Field while Beechwood will contend for a title for the eighth time since 2015. Raceland, Christian Academy-Louisville, and Bowling Green will all make their third straight championship round appearances.

Out of the 12 remaining teams, seven will be searching for their first-ever state title: Raceland (1A), Sayre (1A), Owensboro Catholic (2A), Union County (3A), Franklin County (4A), Cooper (5A), and Ryle (6A). We’ll have a rematch of the Class 5A 2023 title game between Cooper and Bowling Green, as well. It should be a great two-day stretch at Kroger Field.
