Scott Co. hands Huntington first loss of the season

Scott County was able to do what previously has yet to be done this year: beat Hutington High. KSR talent scouts Rob Gidel, Gerry DiNardo, and myself were on hand as the state’s number one team defeated the nation’s numero uno 72-68 in front of a crammed Memorial Coliseum crowd. The Cards got out early on the woefully out-of-sync Huntington club, who were plagued by poor shooting and turnovers throughout. Indiana recruit Bud Mackey was sensational, especially on the defensive end where he held Mayo in check, and likely, to his lowest point total of the season. Senior Matt Walls had a good 20+ for Scott Co., and also did a good job in shutting down Huntington’s athletically superior guards. But what about Pat Patterson you say? Well, Patterson was ignored like the obligatory fat kid at recess. Patterson snatched at least 12 boards and had some strong put back dunks, but probably only got the ball in the post 4 or 5 times as Mayo and company found solace in laying bricks from outside. I was also impressed with Scott Co. Junior Jordan Lee. The 6’7 Center held his own agaisnt Patterson and showed a silky touch around the rim. If this kid keeps developing over the year, he’ll be a name to keep an eye on for sure.

Sadly, no refs were “bumped” in the making of this game, but entertaining nonetheless. Huge win for the school that Jared Carter built, and for Kentucky high school basketball in general.
