(1): The big news of the day came at night as we learned that Chris Matthews has given a verbal commitment to Kentucky for next season. Matthews is a 4 star JUCO Wide Receiver who can give Kentucky exactly what they need.....a top notch deep threat that is available to contribute NEXT SEASON. Matthew visited this past weekend and apparently gave his commitment to the staff soon after. He has talked about still making some other visits, so if that happens, then it is certainly possible that he could back out of his commitment. But that is just pessimistic thought. Positive thought is that the Cats got a HUGE commitment today and one that can address what has been without a doubt, the biggest weakness this past season. (2): I spoke today for a while with Jai Lucas about his upcoming transfer. According to Lucas, his list of schools is Kentucky, Texas, Arkansas, Rice and Baylor, with all five schools having offered him a scholarship. He has spoken extensively with Kentucky and Texas, including multiple conversations with Coach Cyprien. He said that Coach Cyprien has told him that the Cats "dont have a true, true point guard and that it is their biggest need." He has watched UK this year and said that all the schools on his list are schools where he believes playing time can be available. "I dont need schools to give me big recruiting pitches this time. That was the first time around. This time I just want to go to a place where I can play and have a great college basketball experience. I know all the schools pretty well and after Christmas I will make my decision." We will keep you updated, but it looks likes Kentucky is right in the mix on Lucas, who will be eligible next December, with either 2 or 3 years of eligibility, depending on the NCAA ruling. (3): Tonight on Billy Clyde's radio call-in show he updated the status of Michael Porter and Ramon Harris. Porter has spent the weekend in a protective boot, although the boot will be taken off and he will be back to practice this week. As for Ramon Harris, the neurological tests continue to be good and he will hit the court again fairly soon. (4): The Cats will have an open practice in Louisville on Friday at 5:30. If you are around, show up......it is a good event. (5): Finally, Rajon Rondo had quite a night.....a career high 25 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists. We all knew Rondo was gonna be good, but he has exceeded most expectations. Get em ROOOOOOONDO! More all day, including an SEC slant, bowl talk and much more. Stay tuned....
