Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is The Real MVP

by: Nick Roush12/29/17@RoushKSR

Nobody could stop Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

The freshman point guard knocked down 9-of-16 shots to score 24 points against Louisville in 33 minutes of action.  He added 4 assists and 5 rebounds to the box score to earn MVP Honors from The Bluegrass Sports Commission.  As you can see above, it’s not your regular MVP trophy.

The secret to Shai’s success was simple.

“What you see on his face is a smile,” John Calipari said after the game.  “That kid smiles.  I asked him after, I don’t know if it’s a Canadian thing.  I don’t know what it is, but every Canadian I’ve coached has fun and smiles and doesn’t feel the weight of the world on them.  I’ve got some guys still feeling the weight of the world.”

Calipari wants to see more of his players play with a carefree mentality.

“You should all be like Shai,” Cal said.  “Shai, he just plays.”
