[caption id="attachment_198100" align="alignnone" width="600"]@UKStoopTroops @UKStoopTroops[/caption] After closing out the Nutter Practice Facility with six weeks of practice, it all comes to a conclusion at Commonwealth Stadium with the Blue/White Game at noon. For those who want to come but don't have tickets, don't worry they're free.  If you can't make it, you can watch it all on The SEC Network.  If that isn't enough football for you, stick around and watch Freddie Maggard, Jeremy Jarmon and Christi Thomas on the UK Sports Network Postgame Show that should be streaming right here on KSR (if not UKAthletics.com will have you covered).  If that's too much football, you can spend a dollar and ride the shuttle to Keeneland that will be arriving every 15 minutes at the corner of University Drive and Cooper Avenue. I recommend arriving early.  The UK Athletics surplus sale has already begun, giving you plenty of time to shop around before the team bus shows up for the Cat Walk at 10:40.  I'm not sure if it can live up to the 2013 performance, but I have a feeling you people will be sure to show up in droves. spring-game-cat-walk-2013 I'd talk more about the Blue/White Game, but so much news happened over the night, football will just have to wait another hour.  We'll start with some football news.

Erik Korem is Heading to the NFL

Kentucky's High Performance Coach told the Herald-Leader last night that he will return to his home state of Texas to install his program with the Houston Texans.  It was simply an opportunity he could not turn down.  He has no love lost for the UK family.
“First class athletic organization from top to bottom,” he said. “Mitch Barnhart is exceptional, and I really do believe UK is going to make that jump this year.”
Korem's High Performance legacy will remain.  A transition plan is in place to ensure his work is continued.  It's also important to note that Korem's presence was felt on a day-to-day basis, but he did not directly work with the players as much as "Coach Ed," strength coach Corey Edmund.  I do not foresee any setbacks from Korem's departure. Marquez Bolden is Announcing Sunday

After playing in last night's Jordan Brand Classic, Bolden told Rivals that he will make his college decision on his 18th birthday, picking between Duke, Kentucky and TCU this Sunday.  The wait is almost over.

Monk, Fox are Jordan Brand Co-MVPs

UK's next backcourt posing with hardware and Carmelo Anthony.[/caption] Their shots weren't dropping in Chicago for the McDonald's game, but New York City was a much different story.  De'Aaron Fox had 23 points for the East and Malik Monk dropped 22 for the West.  Even though they weren't on the same team, they learned a valuable lesson at The Barclays Center -- sharing is caring.  If they can combine for 45 points a few times next year, I think the Cats will be just fine.

Calipari is on the Road Recruiting

Coach Cal wasn't in New York to watch four of his future players, or in Louisville to watch his son Brad.  He was in Indianapolis recruiting the 2017 class on the first day of the live recruiting period.  Last night was dedicated to a pair of the best players Indianapolis has to offer -- the nation's #4 small forward, Kris Wilkes, and the nation's #4 point guard, Paul Scruggs. The first combo he's watching this morning are near the top on his list.  Trae Young is his point guard of choice in 2017 and Michael Porter Jr. is the best small forward in America. We'll let you know who else he checks out throughout the day.

Brad Calipari Got Buckets at Freedom Hall

Coach Cal's "#1 recruit" netted three three-pointers in last night's Derby City Classic, and left with an appropriate award.  He was selected, "Fan Favorite."  Well done BBN, well done.

The NBA Playoffs Tipoff

Plenty of people love to complain about the way the NBA is played, but now when during the Playoffs.  If you refuse to get out into the beautiful spring weather, basketball starts early and continues all day, with a former Cat featured in every single game.
  • Pacers at Raptors (Patrick Patterson) on ESPN at 12:30
  • Houston (Terrence Jones) at Golden State on ABC at 3:30
  • Celtics (James Young) at Hawks on ESPN at 7:00
  • Dallas at Oklahoma City (Enes Kanter, Nazr Mohammad) on ESPN at 9:30

GonzoFest is Going Down at Waterfront Park

GonzoFest-Banner-2k6 For those who can't make it to Lexington for the Spring Game, the life and work of Hunter S. Thompson will be celebrated in his hometown of Louisville at Waterfront Park from 1:00-11:00.  What is GonzoFest?  It's a good place to get weird.  There's a sideshow, there's art, there's poetry, and on this special occasion there will be an appearance by HST's son Juan F. Thompson.  Juan is the keynote speaker, appearing with his son Will to talk about his book Stories I tell Myself.  Matthew Mahone of Funkhouser wrote a fantastic review of the book that details what it was like to grow up in the shadow of HST's crazy world. To top it off, there will be a ton of music on the Big Four Lawn.  Theo only thing that makes me upset -- one of my classmates is headlining and I can't make it.  Dr. Dundiff was voted "Most Likely to Be Famous" because the man has skill; well worth the $20 admission.

Derby Coverage Begins Today

If there's one thing this site has been lacking, it's kick ass coverage of the Kentucky Derby.  Now that I'm Mr. Full Time Writer that will be changing over the next three weeks.  For those who only care about horse racing to drink and pick the horse with the funniest name, don't worry, I'll keep it entertaining for you too.  As a person that regularly celebrates Derby Season (way too early and way too often) I'll do my best to ensure that you can enjoy it as much as I do. If you hang around long enough, you'll also have a new Offseason Podcast with a Derby betting tip or two at the conclusion.
