Stephen Colbert's Wednesday Morning Wakeup

Drew Franklinby: Drew Franklin09/09/15DrewFranklinKSR

Stephen Colbert made his long-awaited CBS late night debut last night on “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert,” taking over for David Letterman, who held that slot for 22 years. As a huge fan of Colbert on Comedy Central, I was excited to see what he had for us in his first night.

Hot take here: I was pretty disappointed.

I found Colbert’s first run to be pretty bad, although I believe it will improve. I just couldn’t get into his monologue, and the bit about Sabra hummus sent me back to watching tennis over on ESPN. I didn’t love the Donald Trump/Oreo segment, either. I didn’t really like any of it, really. Not even the Clooney interview.

But because I’ve been watching Colbert for years, I will tune in again tonight. And tomorrow. Probably not Friday — got plans. But then again each night next week. Hopefully he finds his groove, and I’m confident he will.

If you tuned in last night, let me know what you thought in the comments section below.

Also below: some notes as we kick off our Wednesday…

We will hear from D.J. Eliot and the defense today.

Yesterday, Shannon Dawson and his offense met with the media following practice to discuss the game plan we saw last Saturday against UL-Lafayette and what they’re doing to get ready for South Carolina. Today, Eliot’s defense will face the handheld cameras and iPads to talk about that side of the ball. As always, Nick will have a full recap of practice and the post-practice comments once it concludes.

The KSR UK Football podcast will go live today.

Assuming everything went as planned yesterday, the third edition of our UK Football podcast will be available later this afternoon. After two weeks of piss-poor quality, we sent a tech to help Roush get this one recorded. It should be much better on the ears this time around.

Check back after your lunch break to hear what the guys had to say about the season opener and what Spurrier has up his sleeve for this coming Saturday.

Kevin Hart added a Lexington show to his tour.

The popular comedian will make a stop in Rupp Arena on Friday, October 9.

So there’s that.

Watch J.D. Shelburne’s new video, “Hometown.”

See if you can catch the UK logos in the video. J.D. loves the Cats.

The video will hit all the country music TV stations in the next few weeks.

You should play in the UK Alumni Association golf scramble.

Jared Lorenzen and I are signed up and ready for a fun day of golf next Tuesday at Keene Run Golf Course. We’d love to have you join us and the UK Alumni Association to help raise money to support the club’s activities. Those activities include scholarships for Fayette County students attending UK, community service projects, Finals Treats on campus during both spring and fall semesters and other events and to support the university. If you’re interested in signing up to play or becoming a sponsor, visit the scramble’s website here. All of the details can be found on that site.

KSR is live at Subway this morning.

In Louisville? Get out to Subway in Fern Creek (8129 Bardstown Road) for a live broadcast of today’s show. Matt and Ryan will be giving away tickets to the UK-Florida game from our friends at GuyOnTheCornerTickets.com.
