Mark Stoops will have an ally behind enemy lines when Kentucky meets Alabama in the SEC Championship next season. His brother, Mike Stoops, is finalizing a deal to join Nick Saban’s staff in Tuscaloosa, according to USA Today.

The third-oldest of the four Stoops brothers, Mike Stoops was fired from Oklahoma back in October, where he was the defensive coordinator from 2012-2018, his second stint with the Sooners. He was also an assistant coach at Oklahoma from 1999-2003, before serving as the head coach at Arizona for eight seasons, prior to his return to Oklahoma.

Stoops’ position will be an off-field position as an analyst. It’s become somewhat of a trend to join Saban’s as an analyst after losing a good job; former Tennessee head coach Butch Jones and former USC head coach Steve Sarkisian have done the same in recent years, among others.

Good luck to Mark Stoops’ older bro, although not too much good luck because Kentucky will see Alabama in Atlanta.
