Tavyion Robinson has 153 career receptions (on 224 targets), 2,052 receiving yards, 12 receiving touchdowns, 265 rushing yards (7.2 yards per rush), and 617 punt return yards. The former Virginia Tech standout has had an accomplished career in college football. Yet, there is still some more to prove.

The Virginia Beach (Va.) Cox product will be a super senior this fall but came short of expectations in his first season at Kentucky. Robinson never reached 50 yards receiving against a power conference opponent and had a career-high three drops, according to PFF. The veteran receiver has played 2,225 career offensive snaps but is having to prove himself during fall camp.

“It’s a big fall for him,” Kentucky offensive coordinator Liam Coen said about the veteran receiver. “This is a big training camp for Tayvion Robinson to truly take the next step and come on and be consistent.”

Coen was on the Kentucky coaching staff when Robinson joined the Wildcats from the transfer portal but quickly left soon after to become the Los Angeles Rams offensive coordinator. While he was away, things did not go great for Robinson under Rich Scangarello. The wide receiver is now looking forward to playing under Coen.

“Very comfortable. More so myself and in offensive coordinator, Coach Coen. That was the guy I came in to play for so having him back has been a blessing for everybody on this team,” Tayvion Robinson told KSR.

“I probably had a smile from ear to ear, honestly. He came back at a time I was deciding on what I would do. Technically, I could have left last year. I wanted to come back, I felt like I needed to come back, and now I get a chance to play for him.”

Tayvion Robinson is in a unique situation. Depth is a real question at wide receiver for Kentucky this year with only eight scholarship players on the roster. That means a big role for the veteran, but he enters the season as WR3 behind budding sophomore stars Barion Brown and Dane Key. The super senior will have a clear role in the offense, but it might not be as huge as expected. But Robinson likes how Coen distributes the football in the passing game and that could help lead to a big season.

“I love the way he gets his playmakers the ball,” Tayvion Robinson said. “In the passing game, he knows how to get his matchups. He knows who he wants to get the ball to and how to get them the ball.”

Tayvion Robinson does not have any personal goals outside of winning and improving as a player. The veteran seems to be more comfortable entering his second fall camp with Kentucky. A good year should get him back on NFL Draft boards after things got knocked off the tracks in 2022.

“Should be a fun year,” said Robinson.
