The 7 Horses Big Blue Nation Should Bet Friday-Saturday at Keeneland

by:TwinSpires.com04/08/16
by JAMES SCULLY Keeneland opens Friday and it isn’t all about betting Thoroughbreds at the world-famous track. People come to have a good time, and there’s nothing wrong with making a few bets while enjoying the social side: it’s exciting and sometimes rewarding. Without getting into the handicapping side of the equation, University of Kentucky fans at Keeneland can look forward to some appealing horse names on the first two days of racing. Here are seven horses the BBN should consider betting at Keeneland. If you bleed blue, these horses can help make you some green. If you can’t make it to the track, use TwinSpires.com to place your wagers. Use promo code KSR10 for a FREE $10 when you sign up!

Friday

Keightley (#9, 3rd race) — The namesake of Mr. Wildcat, the late Bill Keightley, UK’s legendary equipment manager for 48 years, this one stands out. Bluegrass Gem (#1, 1st race) — Coach Calipari may be a native of Pennsylvania, but he’s a Gem of the Bluegrass for UK fans. Whatthecatdrugin (#2, 2nd race) — This one is a little tenuous but my first thought applies to the rest of the SEC Conference in Men’s Basketball, and the drubbings UK routinely applies. Wildcat Belle (#4, 7th race) — Will be plenty of them at Keeneland, especially on opening day Friday, which is college scholarship day. Banner Waving (#4, 8th race) — What the UK Men’s Basketball team will be doing after the 2016-17 season.

Saturday

Faction Cat (#4, 4th race) — Everybody knows this fan; loves UK but expresses views that don’t make sense to the majority of BBN. Catsbury (#8, 5th race) — The UK Men’s Basketball team often buries the competition and this one is owned by former Kentucky Governor Brereton Jones.   Although these horses don’t have UK ties, I’ll be betting them at Keeneland: J R’s Holiday (#5 , 9th race Friday) Barbados (#10, 7th race Saturday) Star Hill (#13, 10th race Saturday, the Blue Grass Stakes)   Good luck & have fun at Keeneland!
