There's a UK-themed restaurant in Japan
And now for something completely random…last night I was browsing Facebook (as most people do when they’re bored and their TV shows are on holiday hiatus), and stumbled upon this gem of a picture. Apparently, there is a UK-themed restaurant in Osaka, Japan called “#1 UK Wildcat Cafe” serving whatever the heck “power food” is. Intrigued and also confused by the Lexington address on that bus, I went searching for more. Turns out they have a website chock full of surreal pictures and descriptions of the restaurant.
From what I could understand thanks to Google Translate, the owner of the cafe studied at UK and lived in the Linden Walk Apartments, hence the address in the name of the place. He moved back to Japan and opened the “head office” in Takaida in 1980. Upon further travels back to the States (and presumably Lexington), he brought back souvenirs to add to the decor. Even though UK is nowhere near Route 66, the owner wanted to model his cafe after roadside diners out West, hence the random “Route 66” signs throughout the restaurant.
Here are some of the pictures and the hilarious descriptions.
UK Cafe Speaking of American food of Osaka. C’mon a power food in a reasonable price! JBL speakers and amplifier of the Macintosh It is space of authentic American diner play a lock. Young and old, any person also WELCOME!
What do they play on these amplifiers of Macintosh?
“Allman Brothers Band, Doobie Brothers, Eagles, Jackson Brown, Eric Clapton, Rolling Stones, Guns & Roses, ZZ Top, Bob Seger, Bob Marley, drag racing, N · H · R · A, muscle car, V8 engine, Elvis Presley, John Wayne Clint Eastwood, Steve McQueen, the Hanshin Tigers”
In summary, the UK cafe describes its sound as “a large-boned rock ‘n’ roll & Southern Rock & Soul & reggae adult.” They also have some cars on-site, including Chevrolet and GMC trucks, and a Corvette Stingray (’63 model split window).
If you’re in the area and want a job, they’re hiring!
Can someone please send them shirts with our actual team colors, please?
