There's Still Time to See Andrew Wiggins

by:Corey Nichols02/25/13
It's almost March, which means that, for better or worse, it's almost time for basketball season to be wrapping up.  While college ball will go into April, high school ball is going to be ending much sooner.  Which means one thing: we're running out of chances to see Andrew Wiggins play ball before his decision in April. But thankfully, "running out" means there are still some opportunities left.  While he doesn't have any more games in Kentucky (Huntington Prep's game in Louisville was canceled), there are still at least two home games that are make-able for folks in, or east of Lexington. This Thursday, 2/28, Wiggins plays an away game at Teays Valley Christian, which is just west of Charleston, WV, right off I-64.  I've not been inside TVC, but I've seen it from the outside, and based on the location, I just can't imagine they have the talent to keep up with Wiggins and company.   I could be wrong, but I have a sneaking suspicion that he could take them on himself.  Should be a fun game to watch.  Teays Valley is a little over two hours from Lexington, and there's a Sheetz.  So it's totally worth it. If you have plans Thursday, then next Tuesday, 3/5, you'll have another shot, as Huntington Prep plays at home against Spire Institute at 7 pm.  Huntington is both bigger and closer than Teays Valley, and there's a Fat Patty's to eat at, which is almost worth the trip all by itself.  If you live close to an interstate exit in Lexington, you can make it to Huntington in an hour and a half, so you could leave after work at 5 and still make it in time for the game.  And also Fat Patty's.  Did I mention that already? Wiggins' team is also scheduled to play at home March 9th, but that happens to be the day that Wiggins is taking an official visit to North Carolina, so it's doubtful that he'll be playing in that game.  You can see more about his schedule on his team page. There's been a lot of talk about Wiggins being a "shy" kid that doesn't enjoy a ton of attention, but even if it's true that doesn't mean you can't go and watch him play.  Just leave your Alan Cutler fathead at home, and only ask for autographs for your immediate family.  Or just use your best discretion and keep it in check. Wiggins will decide in April, and according to SNY.tv, it's still very much up in the air. “I haven’t found it yet, so I am just waiting for that moment that will convince me it’s the right place."
