Thunder exercise Hamidou Diallo's team option for 2020-21

Hamidou Diallo’s professional basketball career will continue in Oklahoma City.

This afternoon, Shams Charania of The Athletic broke the news that the Thunder have decided to exercise Diallo’s $1.66 million team option for next season, keeping him in OKC for at least one more season.

Originally drafted by the Brooklyn Nets with the 45th pick of the 2019 draft, the former Wildcat was traded to the Charlotte Hornets, and then again to the Thunder in exchange for cash and a second-round draft selection.

As a rookie, Diallo played in just 51 games, averaging 3.7 points and 1.9 rebounds in 10.3 minutes per contest. In year two, his minutes increased to 19.5 per game to go with 6.9 points, 3.6 rebounds, 0.8 assists and 0.8 steals per game.

In his redshirt freshman season at Kentucky, the 6-foot-5 guard averaged 10.0 points and 3.6 rebounds per game while starting in all 37 games. Diallo scored in double figures in 16 games, topping the 20-point mark three times. He was also named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week following a 20-point, three-steal effort vs. Virginia Tech where he also knocked down a career-high four 3-pointers. During the 2017-18 season, Diallo led the Wildcats in scoring in four games, rebounds in three games, blocks five times, steals six times and assists twice.
