Yesterday, Kentucky Joe gave us his anthem for the 2023-24 Kentucky Basketball team, “Thundercats,” a riff on Sean Woods’ nickname for the group and the 1980s cartoon. In the grand tradition of Kentucky Joe songs, we already have a remix/cover. Check out this acoustic version of “Thundercats” by Davis Feathers.

Kentucky Joe’s original “Thundercats”

How does the cover compare to the original? If you missed Kentucky Joe’s performance yesterday, we’ve got you covered on the KSR YouTube Channel.

There’s a noise on the horizon
It’s right above the Rupp Arena floor
Playing for the Wildcats’ men’s basketball
And making fans scream once more

It’s basketball time in Kentucky
And the Wildcats fans are excited you see
Because Wildcats named the Thundercats
And Wildcats fans are ready to explode!

They are the Thundercats!
The Kentucky team
They’re full of players with fire in their soul
They are an exciting team to watch
The number nine men’s college men’s basketball champs is their goal

They have the dream
They are Kentucky’s team
They are the Thundercats
They are the Thundercats

Between “Thundercats” and “Reed & Rob” (still my favorite submission this year), it’s clear the Big Blue Nation is having fun. Country music star/Kentucky superfan JD Shelburne is about to throw his hat into the ring too.
