On this day ten years ago, the University of Kentucky made history and five lives were changed forever. June 24, 2010 marked the night a record-breaking five Wildcats were selected in the first round of the NBA Draft. John Wall (No. 1), DeMarcus Cousins (No. 5), Patrick Patterson (No. 14), Eric Bledsoe (No. 18) and Daniel Orton (No. 29) each found their first home in the league that night.
"Right now, it feels like we won a national title,'' John Calipari said at the time. "That's how I feel. I have a tingle in my body, more so than when we went to the Final Fours [at UMass and Memphis].'' That quote is just the beginning of it. To this day, Coach Cal continues to get heat for his comments that dubbed the night "the biggest day in the history of Kentucky basketball." KSR's own Matt Jones wrote about his initial reaction to that remark on this very blog ten years ago today. Take a trip down memory lane with Matt here.
KSR's own Bradley 'B-roll' McKee pointed out the significance of the date on Twitter: https://twitter.com/Bradley_B_Roll/status/1275845748786167809 Elsewhere on the internet, one team is celebrating their anniversary with their former Wildcat. The Washington Wizards posted an 8-minute video detailing John Wall's first 24 hours with the organization.
