Today on KSR: Basketball content galore

The football team’s bye week came at the right time because we have been swamped with UK basketball content.

Before we turn this into a football versus basketball debate, KSR has been all-in on this football team. We had football content yesterday and we’ll have plenty more today.

Personally, it’s been the most fun start I can ever recall and I’ve been incredibly impressed with the content from Nick Roush, Tyler Thompson, Drew Franklin, Adam Luckett (he’ll have a midseason report card today) and the rest of the gang all season. We’re not even halfway through the season if you consider the bowl game.

But the great season doesn’t continue until October 20th (that game will be at 7:30 at Kroger Field), so it’s good news we’ve been swamped with basketball coverage and that won’t change on today.

Be Prepared:

There will be plenty of Louisville Death Penalty hot takes all day. Yesterday Brian Bowen Sr., said on the stand that former Louisville associate head coach Kenny Johnson gave him $1,300 to help him cover rent.

This is obviously not great news for UofL. The timing is even worse. The payment happened just a couple weeks ago after UofL was officially put on probation for the prostitution scandal. Breaking the rules when you’re already in timeout is a big no-no. Having a scandal that led to the forfeiture of a national championship then paying a recruit is even worse.

Yahoo’s Dan Wetzel wondered if the NCAA will have the courage to issue the Death Penalty.

Just when UofL is ready to move on and Chris Mack has momentum on the recruiting trail it looks like a dark cloud will be over the program for at least a few more years.

Media Day:

That’s tomorrow, but we’re a day closer. Then we’ll be treated with Big Blue Madness on Friday. That will be another wild event that will bring some of UK’s top recruits to Rupp Arena to take in the show. Vernon Carey, Matthew Hurt, Khristian Lander (2020) and R.J. Hampton (2020) will be in the building, along with UK commit Dontaie Allen, plus likely a few other surprises.

Kentucky has been known to bring in some recruits on Thursday to let them see what UK’s Media Day looks like to show them the coverage the Cats receive, so I’ll be interested to see if any will be making their way to campus on tomorrow.

To hold you over to Media Day and Big Blue Madness, we’ve been releasing a handful of stories this week giving you a look at this year’s team. Hopefully you’ve been checking it out.

Drake Jackson should be healthy for the Vandy game:

But color me a little worried. Mark Stoops announced he strained his groin during the Texas A&M game and did not practice on Tuesday.

“Drake was not out here today. He’ll be out a few days. Hopefully he’ll be back next week. Not sure how long, but it should be just a few days.”

Well, thank goodness it’s the bye week. Kentucky should have no problem beating Vanderbilt but one way that game could become unnecessarily close is if the Cats are banged up, so getting healthy is a must this week.

Here are five other things we learned from Mark Stoops yesterday.

Cal went to see Jaden McDaniels again:

Well, how about that. Out of all of UK’s 2019 targets no recruitment has been quieter than McDaniels. The five-star wing is considering Washington, San Diego State, Texas, UCLA and Kentucky and will officially visit the Aztecs this weekend. It’s his first and only scheduled official visit and it’s where his brother plays. SDSU and Texas currently lead his Crystal Ball on 247 Sports.

I’ve never felt great about UK’s chances with McDaniels, but if Calipari is heading out to Seattle for the second time in a few weeks it clearly shows the Cats want him, and when Calipari really wants someone he’s tough to beat.

We need to hear of McDaniels scheduling an official visit to UK before things get serious, but the Cats are certainly the most prestigious school on his list and Calipari easily has the best track record with players like McDaniels.

We’ll definitely talk about this on Hardly Committed, which will be recorded and published today.

Get ready for the ALCS/NLCS:

My Red Sox held on to defeat the Yankees in a dramatic 9th inning last night, and now we’re down to four. In the NLCS it’s the Dodgers vs. Brewers on Friday and the Red Sox will host Houston on Saturday.

Go Boston!

Nah:

No thanks. We’ve seen a plethora of videos of alligators on golf courses but I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a snake. Well, not a snake like this. That thing is a monster.

My first reaction was wondering if Chris Tomlin was going to hunt this thing. On Tuesday’s Hey Kentucky! he posted a video of his adventures hunting snakes in the Everglades.

Wild stuff.

Watch that video HERE.
