Today on KSR: Cade Cunningham, BBNBA, and Mizzou

by: Mrs. Tyler Thompson10/23/19@MrsTylerKSR

Good morning, friends. You’re almost halfway through the week, so congratulations on that. There’s a lot happening in the world of UK Sports right now, so let’s get to it.

What’s the latest with Cade Cunningham?

On Monday night, John Calipari made a special trip to Florida to see the No. 2 player in the 2020 class, reportedly at Cunningham’s father’s request. Since then, the internet has been abuzz with rumors, including some that claim the five-star guard will commit to Kentucky today; however, Adam Zagoria is reporting that Mike White and Florida’s staff will be in to see Cunningham today, so a decision is likely imminent, not immediate. Oklahoma State is still in the picture thanks to Cunningham’s brother being on staff. It could create for an awkward Thanksgiving, but I think his brother will understand if he wants to win a title, right?

The one thing we know for certain is that Calipari is courting Cunningham with a zeal we haven’t seen in a while, which usually means very good things. And this post on Instagram from current commit Terrence Clarke sure is exciting:

We’ll continue to keep our ears to the ground. You should use your ears to listen to the latest episode of the Sources Say podcast, which dropped last night. Plenty more Cunningham talk in there. Also check out Jack’s comprehensive timeline of his recruitment, which shows you just how much momentum the Cats have right now:

With a decision on the horizon, Kentucky’s recruiting timeline with Cade Cunningham is flat-out absurd

BBNBA Opening Week continues

Last night, Patrick Patterson’s Clippers beat Anthony Davis’ Lakers 112-102 on the opening night of the 2019-20 NBA season. Davis had a double-double in his Lakers debut, scoring 25 points and grabbing 10 rebounds, while Patterson had 4 points and 3 rebounds in his first game with the Clippers. Rajon Rondo did not play with a calf injury.

Several more Cats make their 2019-20 debuts tonight. Seriously, the list is kind of ridiculous:

Mark Stoops on the SEC Teleconference

Switching to football, Mark Stoops will take his turn on the SEC Teleconference around lunch. Check the site later to see what he has to say about the Cats’ preparations for Mizzou. I’m going to go out on a limb and guess he won’t say much about the quarterback situation.

Defense talks after practice

Brad White and the defense will also chat with reporters after practice today. Last night, Eddie Gran said he’s expecting Mizzou to be “spitting snot bubbles” angry after losing to Vanderbilt, a metaphor that doesn’t make a lot of sense to me, but hey, I will agree that the Tigers will be out for blood after a bad loss to the ‘Dores. Meanwhile, Darin Hinshaw talked about the quarterbacks and how UK is preparing for Mizzou’s pass defense:

You can see interviews with Ahmad Wagner, Drake Jackson, and AJ Rose on our YouTube page.

Volleyball takes on LSU on the SEC Network

On Sunday, Leah Edmond became Kentucky’s all-time kills leader as the Cats swept Alabama 3-0. The volleyball team is now 13-5 on the season, 6-1 in the SEC, and ranked No. 16 in the country. Tonight, they’ll host LSU at 8 p.m. If you can’t make it to Memorial Coliseum, you can watch live on the SEC Network.

Game 2 of the World Series

The Nationals won Game 1 of the World Series last night, beating the Astros 5-4. Game 2 is tonight at 8:00 p.m. on FOX, and if you’re wise, you’ll watch at KSBar, where our “Hammer it Out of the Park” promotion continues:

Matt’s also hosting trivia starting at 7 p.m., so lots of opportunities for bird-free fun at KSBar tonight.

The Bluegrass for the Bahamas fundraiser is tonight

We’ve been spreading the word about bdG Sports’ efforts to help the people of the Bahamas’ Great Abaco Island, which was ravaged by Hurricane Dorian last month. Tonight is their Bluegrass for the Bahamas fundraiser, which will take place from 7-10 p.m. at Malone’s Prime Events in Lexington. Here are just a few of the items that will be auctioned off to raise money for the people of the Bahamas:

For more information and tickets, visit www.bluegrassforthebahamas.com. Donations of building supplies and clothing (new) will be accepted 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and 4-7 p.m. today through Sunday at a tractor trailer located in front of The MouseTrap.

Orange Theory Hell Week begins tomorrow

Last December, I started going to Orange Theory, a popular gym that specializes in high intensity interval training. It’s become my favorite kind of torture and I’ve been pleased with the results, but I’m a little terrified because tomorrow, I start my first Hell Week. From tomorrow until Halloween, I’ll be subjecting myself to what I hear are ridiculously hard workouts, all in the name of a free t-shirt. OTFers out there, gimme some advice and/or encouragement. I got this?

KSR Dogs of the Day

I’ll leave you with Millie and Luke, who share today’s honor:
