Today on KSR: Eastern Michigan Aftermath

The Health of Terry Wilson While the Wildcats walked away with a victory on Saturday night, we all know what the biggest story stemming from the game really is. Quarterback Terry Wilson went down with an apparent knee injury in the third quarter and was carted off the field. https://twitter.com/Scott_Charlton/status/1170520198308421637?s=20 At the time this post was written, Wilson’s status had not been determined. I think it would be incredibly irresponsible to speculate on the situation other than it doesn’t seem like Wilson will be playing against Florida next weekend. Obviously, the implications of this injury could be rather large. Losing a veteran quarterback to injury at the start of the season could derail any team’s year. Wilson is scheduled to have an MRI today so let’s hope for the best for an exceptional young man. While I will not speculate, it should be noted that Head Coach Mark Stoops was recorded telling Eastern Michigan’s coach that “my guy is out for the year.” https://twitter.com/CharlieWalterTV/status/1170553479879897088?s=20 The Bright Side: Sawyer Smith and Kavosiey Smoke The good news for Kentucky is that they did move to 2-0 on the season thanks in part to the play of Smoke and Smith. While Asim Rose is still a dependable back, Smoke is having a breakout season so far. The redshirt freshman has ran for 170 yards and two touchdowns on just 18 carries through the first two games of the season. That’s good for an outstanding nine yards a carry. No disrespect to Rose as the Wildcats will need him this year, but Smoke needs to be the starting running back when the Gators come to town next weekend. Backup quarterback Sawyer Smith also had a great game once he came in for Wilson. The transfer from Troy threw a 54-yard touchdown on his very first pass at Kentucky. He would end the game on 5-9 passing for 76 yards and two touchdowns. Smith will need to be ready to go next weekend as he will be going up against a very talented Florida defense in his first start as an SEC quarterback. That isn’t ideal at all, but Smith has been an above average quarterback his whole career. The talent is there with him. If he can just be a competent game manager for the Wildcats in Wilson’s absence, then Kentucky should be just fine. https://twitter.com/Scott_Charlton/status/1170523453025345538?s=20 Room for Improvement The Wildcats are still trying to find their groove on the season so far. Yes, a win is a win. However, Kentucky still played a very sloppy game on Saturday night. Rose fumbled the football on the one-yard line which prevented the Wildcats from going up 21-0, and another drive ended in a missed field goal. I haven’t even mentioned the seven huge penalties called on Kentucky last night. Overall, if it wasn’t for three Eastern Michigan turnovers it could have been a close ballgame. The secondary must also play better as they allowed a quarterback from a non-power five school to throw for over 300 passing yards. Mental errors must be erased if the Wildcats want to beat Florida for the second straight year. Elsewhere in College Football The biggest game of the day was undoubtably the showdown between #9 Texas and #6 LSU in Austin. Make no mistake about it, this was an absolute shootout as both teams combined for a total of 1,103 yards of offense. However, the Tigers and their new-look offense emerged victorious 45-38. You heard it here first: LSU is going to give Alabama a heck of a race in the SEC West. The Crimson Tide have been standing in the way of the Tigers for this entire decade as LSU could never field a competent offense against them. That will change this season. I’m not saying it will happen, but this seems like the ideal season for the Tigers to finally get the job done. https://twitter.com/BleacherReport/status/1170541727851020289?s=20 To no surprise, Clemson handled Texas A&M with ease. The Aggies actually laid a bit of an egg on Saturday and played terribly in a top-15 ranked matchup. For the rest of the top-25, everything else was pretty much chalk. Four out of the top five teams in the country blew out their opponents by at least 40 points each. Besides Texas and Texas A&M, the only other ranked opponents who lost on Saturday were Syracuse, Stanford, and Nebraska who were all ranked between 20-25. This weekend will be remembered for LSU’s astonishing performance and Michigan’s near loss to Army. I feel like I’m missing something else…. Oh yea, TENNESSEE LOST AGAIN!!! And this time it was in the most embarrassing way possible. With just a few seconds left in regulation, BYU completed a miracle 64-yard pass in order to kick a field goal and send the game into overtime. Of course, the Cougars won and now the Volunteers are 0-2 to start the season. https://twitter.com/RedditCFB/status/1170528386818686977?s=20 You just really hate to see it.
