Travis Perry already holds the state of Kentucky’s all-time career scoring record for a high school player. In a couple of days, he’ll likely become the first individual to ever cross the 5,000-point threshold.

Earlier on Thursday, Perry and No. 1 Lyon County (19-1) took down Owensboro Catholic (13-3) by a final score of 72-54 in the opening round of the All “A” Classic state tournament at Corbin Arena. Perry, who came into the contest averaging 29.4 points per outing — third-best in the state — poured in 37 points during the Lyons’ victory.

The Kentucky men’s basketball commit scored 13 of his points in the fourth quarter, which came right after he knocked down a rainbow three-pointer at the third-quarter buzzer that gave Lyon County a 53-36 lead going into the final period. The win marked Lyon County’s first at the All “A” Classic in school history.

According to Larry Vaught, those 37 points put Perry at 4,955 career high school points, meaning he’s just 45 away from being the first to crack 5,000. During last season’s Sweet 16, Perry surpassed Kelly “King” Coleman’s previous all-time state record of 4,337 points. Through 19 games in his senior season, Perry has already added another 618 points to his career numbers.

Perry, ranked as the No. 87 overall class of 2024 prospect by the On3 Industry Ranking, and top-ranked Lyon County will be back in action again on Friday for the quarterfinals. The Lyons will take on Walton-Verona (15-6) at 6:30 p.m. EST. The winner will advance to Saturday’s semifinals at 4:00 p.m. EST. Sunday’s championship game is set for 2:00 p.m. EST.

All games are being streamed live on PrepSpin for a fee of $14.95 per day.
