For the second consecutive season, a Kentucky Mr. Basketball winner will suit up for the Wildcats.

On Sunday evening in Lexington, Kentucky signee Travis Perry out of Lyon County was tabbed as Mr. Basketball during the annual award ceremony. He was joined by Pikeville’s Trinity Rowe, who was named Kentucky Miss Basketball and will continue her athletic career at Southern Miss in the fall.

Perry becomes the 21st future Wildcat to earn Kentucky Mr. Basketball and the second in a row after Reed Sheppard did the same thing with North Laurel in 2023. Meanwhile, Rowe is just the ninth-ever player from the 15th Region (boys or girls) to win the state’s top honor.

Perry has powered Lyon County to three straight 2nd Region titles and will lead his Lyons to the Sweet 16 once again with hopes of winning the ultimate crown this coming week. Lyon County ranks No. 3 in KSR’s latest statewide rankings, holding a 32-3 overall record. Perry is fifth in the state in scoring at 29.5 points per game and is tops in the state in three-pointers made per game at 4.9 on a 42 percent clip.

Checking in at 6-foot-2, Perry is considered the No. 86 overall prospect from the class of 2024, per the On3 Industry Ranking. He chose the ‘Cats over the likes of Cincinnati, Ole Miss, Western Kentucky, and Alabama. Perry also won the 2023 Kentucky Sports Figure of the Year award back in January. He’s been playing varsity since seventh grade and is the state’s all-time leader in points scored with 5,393.

Perry and Lyon County will open its Sweet 16 run on Wednesday, March 20 against Ashland Blazer inside Rupp Arena. Tipoff is set for 1:30 p.m. EST.

As for Trinity Rowe, the 5-foot-5 guard signed with Southern Miss last August. She averaged 16.2 points per game (40.3 percent from long range) for the Lady Panthers, which finished the season 27-6 overall and made it out of the 15th Region before falling in the first round of the Sweet 16 earlier this week to Bethlehem. Like Perry, Rowe has also been on the varsity squad since her seventh-grade year.

Congrats to both winners. Travis, we’ll see you at Rupp in a few days.
